Cyclophilins catalyze the isomerization of peptide bonds from trans form to cis form at proline residues and facilitate protein folding.
Human cyclophilin A forms a dimer, and inhibits the calcium/calmodulin-dependent phosphatase calcineurin. This inhibition is thought to suppress organ rejection by halting the production of the pro-inflammatory molecules TNF alpha and interleukin 2. Cyclophilin A is one of the cellular proteins that gets incorporated into budding HIV particles and may be important for HIV assembly and infectivity. |
